Fresh from a cruise on Lake Geneva and a demanding round of interviews, I Blame Coco - aka Coco Sumner, famously the daughter of the legendary Sting - spoke to the Caribana festival website ahead of her Saturday night performance.
Coco, whose debut album The Constant was released last year, was down to earth and in good humour, sipping from a large mug of tea as we spoke.
Caribana: Have you enjoyed your time here so far?
I Blame Coco: I have - I love Switzerland. It has been good so far - we got to take a boat on the lake which was amazing.
You don’t get that at every festival?
It is not an average day at the office anyway.
And you back feeling healthy after you had to cancel a concert in Zurich earlier this year?
Yes I did and I’m back on good form again.
Tell us a little about your debut album The Constant?
Well its out but I find it quite weird talking about it because of being working on a bunch of other music.
You seemed to be very focused on what you wanted and had your own vision?
I think its very important to have your own vision, otherwise people just push you around and have it their way.
What has been the most exciting part of touring so far?
Every day gets better. Every festival we play and we every gig we play are new highlights really.
You’ve worked with Robyn on the album. if you could work with anyone on your next release who would it be?
Well it would have been Gil Scott Heron because I’m a big Gil Scott Heron fan but unfortunately he passed away recently which is really sad - the godfather of hip-hop.
What are you future plans? You’ve been busy touring and promoting so can we expect a new album or are you not looking that far ahead yet?
No. I’m actually writing and writing away. I’ve started on a new project that I’m going to be announcing soon. So that’s where my focus in on now.
