While Erin Wasson is making headlines for collaborating with fashion labels, Irina Lazareanu is quietly debuting her very own Japan-only clothing brand. Titled Irina L., the line first appeared in pre-collection form and now has a full spring-summer line that is hitting stores in Japan this month.
Irina L. is a direct reflection of Lazareanu's tomboyish style—complete with denim pieces such as overalls, and a big selection of mannish button-up shirts that have been slimmed down for the petite Japanese women's market.
Racked's sources tell us everything comes straight from Lazareanu herself, including a shirt with a smattering of hand-embroidered names, that looks like the model invited friends to tag themselves on on it. In a statement, Lazareanu said: “My own style has no rules and no particular theme. It all comes from old movies, vintage clothes and music that I listen to and like, and each time I portray and coordinate myself as the heroine. At times it has a semblance of rock’n’roll and at times I’m a glamorous sexy girl. Girly style is also my favorite. But in essence, a simple T-shirt and jeans suits me the most…”
No word on how long the line will run, but it will for sure stay a Japan-only venture for now. — Misha Janette
