Back in the fall of 2006, Suvi Koponen made a splash as the opening act for Prada, a cool, rangy blonde equipped with just the right amount of Nordic nonchalance. “Wow, it feels so long ago,” says the Finnish model, who recently returned to the runway after a brief hiatus. “But you know, it’s so energizing to be doing the shows again.” With appearances at Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Proenza Schouler, and an exclusive at Versace in Milan, her comeback season has been pretty sensational, and a far cry from her beginnings on a Scandinavian reality-TV show. Grand entrances aside, it’s been an opportunity for the 22-year-old to connect with model buddies like Heidi Mount and Alana Zimmer; she also took a turn on the catwalk for old friend Richard Chai. “I just love his clothes!” she says. “They are cool but supercomfortable, so my style.” So what’s her favorite moment after a month of renewed fashion mania? Touching down in New York and into the arms of her boyfriend, model Tyler Riggs.
